Kelly Clarkson’s Dispute with Brooklyn Shop Raises Safety Concerns

1 day ago 0

The recent altercation between Kelly Clarkson and a Brooklyn shop has left Art of Play’s co-owner, Adam Rubin, apprehensive about more than just the lost business opportunity. During a conversation with Fox News Digital, Rubin explained the possible threats his store now faces after the controversial incident surrounding a $15,000 mechanical singing bird escalated. This bird, once priced at $15,000, now bears a staggering price tag of $15 million.

Impact on Art of Play

Adam Rubin, who manages Art of Play and writes children’s books, expressed his concern regarding the negative repercussions resulting from the fallout with Clarkson. “I am afraid for the safety of our shop. Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger,” Rubin stated to Fox News Digital. Furthermore, he mentioned that besides receiving angry online comments, individuals affiliated with the store have faced threats and exposure of personal information.

We’ve got incredible support from our neighbors and fans over the past few days, and all of them have been attacked, threatened, doxed,” Rubin reported. He accused Clarkson of misusing her influential platform, claiming it fueled the backlash against his small business. Rubin critiqued the perceived misuse of celebrity power, noting that Clarkson’s status involves certain responsibilities.

He questioned why individuals uninvolved with his establishment would attack it on a celebrity’s behalf, expressing frustration over the matter.

The Bird’s New Valuation

The mechanical bird, at the heart of the controversy, has subsequently seen a dramatic reassessment in its valuation. A photograph captured by Fox News Digital depicts a new sign next to the bird, named Molly, crafted by artist Bliss Kolb. The sign now lists the bird’s price at a staggering $15 million.

Rubin elaborated on the new price, attributing it to supply and demand dynamics and asserting that despite the valuation, the bird remains unsaleable. He suggested Molly’s fame has increased her recognition globally as a mechanical bird.

Controversial Exchange

The dispute traces back to a Saturday encounter when Clarkson visited Art of Play. The singer publicly criticized the store for an experience she deemed humiliating, comparing it to a famous scene from the movie “Pretty Woman.” Clarkson’s social media post detailed her dissatisfaction, questioning the employee’s attitude and accusing them of being discourteous.

These claims were contested by Art of Play, which insisted on a miscommunication. The store stated the employee offered Clarkson a similar bird by Molly’s creator instead. Despite the uproar, Rubin expressed openness to Clarkson revisiting the shop.

Personal Strains on Rubin

The ruckus over the mechanical bird took a personal toll on Rubin, who revealed he was recovering from a medical operation to remove cancer from his face. Despite needing rest, Rubin prioritized the store’s safety as a reason to be present.

Art of Play, Rubin explains, is more than the dispute defining it currently—it is a “curiosity shop.” The store aims to channel youthful wonder through diverse objects like puzzles, games, and kaleidoscopes, with Rubin’s dedication linked to his background in magic and illusion. Within the store, a small theater showcases intimate magic performances, with Molly starring as the opening act.
