Kenneth Walker III is excelling with the Kansas City Chiefs after his trade from the Seattle Seahawks. This decision is proving beneficial for the Chiefs. In four games, Walker has rushed for 537 yards. He now leads the NFL in rushing yards, surpassing the next player by over 100 yards.
This impressive performance broke the Chiefs’ franchise record for rushing yards between Week 1 and Week 4, previously reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Chiefs have had many great running backs, making this achievement notable for the reigning Super Bowl MVP, Walker.
The last running back to reach this milestone within the first four weeks was DeMarco Murray in 2014, with 534 yards. Murray is currently the running backs coach for the Chiefs. Walker’s performance continues to be a focal point this season as he aims to become the 10th NFL running back to surpass 2,000 rushing yards in a single season. He is also on pace to challenge Eric Dickerson’s record of 2,105 yards.
Last season, Walker rushed for 1,027 yards. He is already more than halfway to that total this season. His chances of achieving a personal record are strong.
Walker’s winning streak spans 14 games, dating back to November 23 during his time with the Super Bowl-winning Seahawks. The Chiefs, now 4–0, remain unbeaten. Patrick Mahomes continues to effectively utilize Walker, which supports the team’s strategy. The Chiefs might focus more on their running game while assessing the injuries sustained by wide receivers Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, who were injured in the win against the Las Vegas Raiders.
With an upcoming bye week, the Chiefs have time to address their receiver situation. Walker took charge again against the Raiders, rushing 22 times for 177 yards and two touchdowns, marking his best game this season. This performance also helped cement his place in franchise history.
