Lane Kiffin returned to Oxford’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with the LSU Tigers to face his former team at Ole Miss. The reception was intense as the Ole Miss fans expressed their displeasure with his presence.
On Saturday night, the Rebels, led by Pete Golding, secured a 32-24 victory over Kiffin and the Tigers. The match set a new attendance record for the program, drawing 70,033 spectators into the stadium.
After the game, Kiffin compared the experience to a “buzz saw” for his team, acknowledging the enthusiastic environment. “The stadium was full an hour early. So, I guess I had to leave to get them to do that,” he quipped during a post-game interview. “You’re welcome.”
Previously, Kiffin had departed from an 11-1 Ole Miss team just prior to their College Football Playoff appearance to join LSU. While he achieved opening wins against Clemson and Louisiana Tech, his first defeat with LSU came against Ole Miss.
With this victory, Ole Miss advanced to a 3-0 start for the season, gearing up for a road game against the Florida Gators in the coming weekend.
