Panthers Coach Reflects on Game Mistakes During Bye Week

24 minutes ago 0

The Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs both had a bye in Week 5, providing them the chance to watch errors that cost several teams their games. Panthers head coach Dave Canales shared insights regarding these mistakes as his team returns from the break.

Canales told reporters on Monday, “Nobody can ignore those games. It’s beneficial to utilize a bye week to watch as much as possible on RedZone.” He mentioned receiving messages from coaches about questionable game-management decisions. Canales uses these examples to refocus his team on decision-making and their objectives.

Recent games included several dramatic finishes. Two contentious coaching decisions stood out. Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni made a critical special teams error following Jake Elliott’s go-ahead field goal against the Jaguars. Allowing Ameer Abdullah to return the kickoff for 53 yards, the Eagles set up a game-winning field goal by Cam Little.

In overtime, the Washington Commanders, led by head coach Dan Quinn, mishandled their final possession against the Giants. A turnover positioned them for a field goal, but with no timeouts, Jayden Daniels failed to spike the ball. The game ended in a 27-27 tie instead of a win for Washington.

Both coaches faced criticism, a situation Canales hopes to avoid. The Panthers currently hold a 2-2 record, leading the NFC South, after the Atlanta Falcons lost to the Baltimore Ravens. With Tampa Bay and New Orleans at 1-4, Carolina remains a strong contender. They’ve defeated the Falcons and Lions, but face a significant challenge against the Eagles in Philadelphia next Sunday.
