Taylor Farms, a major producer of leafy greens and vegetables in the United States, is taking action following a recent cyclosporiasis outbreak. The outbreak has affected over 1,600 people, with iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms identified as a possible source. Some of this lettuce was supplied to Taco Bell restaurants.
The company, based in Salinas, California, announced on Friday the voluntary removal of affected products. This decision followed information from the Food and Drug Administration. Taylor Farms emphasized its commitment to proactive measures to ensure consumer safety.
Founded in 1995 by Bruce Taylor, Taylor Farms operates extensively. It is known as a significant player in the agricultural sector, with over $7 billion in annual produce sales. Their operations span more than 12 states in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The company manages 30 processing facilities and employs 25,000 people.
Taylor Farms also serves the grocery industry heavily. They produce over 40 percent of salad kits in U.S. stores and provide 265 million servings of fresh vegetables weekly. However, the specific grocery stores and restaurants supplied by Taylor Farms remain undisclosed, as common in the industry.
