On Sunday, fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah seemed to lessen. This followed a directive from the Israeli government limiting its military to defensive actions in Lebanon.
By late afternoon, reports indicated no Israeli attacks on Lebanon nor Hezbollah strikes on Israel. However, uncertainty remained about whether the directive issued late Saturday would alleviate the tensions that led to previous clashes and jeopardized a preliminary peace agreement between the U.S. and Iran.
In a social media post on Sunday, former President Trump expressed his dissatisfaction with Iran’s activities in Lebanon, urging Iran to halt their proxies. He warned of a potential intensification of military action against Iran if the situation continued.
“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble,” Trump stated. “If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!”
Lebanon has seen numerous cease-fires declared and broken in recent weeks, with disagreements over the definition of defensive actions for Israeli forces.
Israel’s Defense Minister, Israel Katz, stated on Sunday that IDF soldiers are permitted to address threats in Lebanon without restrictions.
The recent clashes have largely occurred in the areas surrounding Tebnit and Ali al-Taher ridge, which overlooks Nabatieh, a significant city in southern Lebanon.
