Texas started their season strong with a commanding win over Texas State, defeating the Bobcats 59-7. The victory was witnessed by over 100,000 enthusiastic home fans. This game provided an opportunity for Longhorns supporters to see their new star transfer, sophomore wideout Cam Coleman.
Coleman impressed in his debut, recording 70 yards and two touchdowns from three catches, including a 44-yard pass teamed with Arch Manning. His ability in the red zone was evident, and it appears he has already formed a solid partnership with Manning.
Looking ahead, Texas faces a significant challenge on Saturday night against Ohio State at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. Coleman is not daunted by the upcoming matchup. “We’re coming. We’re coming,” he remarked concerning the Buckeyes’ defense.
Coleman entered Texas as the top-rated transfer of the 2026 college football cycle, having delivered two successful seasons at Auburn. In 2024, he achieved 598 yards with eight touchdowns from 37 catches, averaging 16.2 yards per catch, earning SEC All-Freshman Team accolades. Last season, his stats included 708 yards and five touchdowns on 56 catches, with an average of 12.6 yards per catch.
Signs indicate Coleman could surpass these figures this season, receiving passes from Manning, whose game seems to have improved. Manning’s performance against Texas State consisted of completing 20 out of 27 passes for 305 yards and four touchdowns, with one interception. Junior receiver Ryan Wingo also contributed significantly, posting 121 yards and one touchdown on seven catches.
Despite the efficiency of Texas’s offense, Ohio State poses a formidable challenge. The Buckeyes recently defeated Ball State 56-3, and both teams remain unbeaten entering Week 2. Coleman’s abilities will be tested against Ohio State’s skilled secondary.
