Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Jacob Quillan also contributed to the Marlies’ score in the second period. Landon Sim scored a late first-period goal to reduce the deficit to 2-1 for the Marlies. Artur Akhtyamov’s performance was key, making 27 saves. He was named the playoff MVP with an impressive record of 15-7, a 2.22 goals-against average, and a .923 save percentage during the postseason.
This victory marks the Marlies’ second Calder Cup win, with their previous title in 2018. The Marlies are the primary affiliate of the NHL’s Toronto Maple Leafs.
On the Chicago Wolves’ side, Felix Unger Sörum played a significant role by scoring twice and providing an assist. Josiah Slavin added a goal, and Cayden Primeau managed 19 saves throughout the game. The Wolves, associated with the Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes, have previously won the Calder Cup three times. They averted elimination with a 4-3 overtime win in the previous game of the series.
