Trump Opens Great American State Fair with Patriotic Speech

5 days ago 0

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump inaugurated the Great American State Fair on Wednesday, presenting it as a triumph for the U.S. and himself. During a speech on the National Mall, he declared, “America is back.” He emphasized the nation’s revival, stating, “Now we’re the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

The event, organized by Freedom 250, a partnership initiated by Trump, is designed as a modern-day world’s fair to commemorate America’s 250th birthday. Planning faced challenges when artists like rapper Young MC and singer Martina McBride withdrew, expressing concerns over its political nature. Trump replaced them, delivering a 30-minute rally-style speech, which was shorter than usual for him.

Trump addressed attendees, saying the anniversary is “a time to be proud of our past” and urged Americans to aim high for the future. He pledged to leave the next generation a “richest inheritance.” The president, introduced by country singer Lee Greenwood with “God Bless the U.S.A.,” also discussed an agreement to end the U.S. conflict with Iran. Trump claimed, “Iran will never have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump highlighted recent developments, claiming a historic agreement with Iran and acknowledging the symbolism of ending the war.

The fair’s launch included notable features like fighter jet flyovers and performances by military bands. The U.S. Marine Band accompanied Alexis Wilkins, who sang the national anthem. Trump’s presence dominated the event, with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy jokingly contrasting the military bands to the artists who canceled, while asserting Trump as a significant president.

Trump’s speech stuck to familiar points, but without excessive partisanship. He briefly addressed gender policies and recent claims about vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. Despite reports of damage, Trump reassured that repairs would restore its appearance. Past renovations added a coating Trump called “American flag blue.”

Attendees arrived early, grabbing patriotic gear. Several wore Trump-related clothing, reflecting their support. One supporter, Edward X. Young, shared his dedication by recalling the bicentennial celebration decades ago. He stated, “Put the politics aside; this is history.”

Others, like Shannon Silveri and Mary Smith, viewed the event primarily as a celebration of America, not solely a platform for Trump. Silveri attended for the national milestone, and Smith emphasized her pride in the country, saying she would participate regardless of the current president.
