President Donald Trump has again chosen to vote by mail in Florida, despite his frequent denunciations of mail-in voting. He recently participated in Florida’s Republican primary through a mail ballot. Palm Beach County voting records indicate Trump requested this mail ballot in late July and returned it by August 13, just ahead of the primary, according to Politico.
This instance marks Trump’s second mail-in vote in Florida this year. Previously, he voted by mail during a special election in March. At that time, he justified his choice by referring to his status as president, though records showed he was in Palm Beach when early voting options were available, as reported by the Associated Press.
The White House downplayed accusations of hypocrisy as unimportant. Santiago Mayer, leader of Voters of Tomorrow, sharply criticized Trump via an email to Newsweek. Mayer pointed out the inconsistency between Trump’s public stance and private actions, accusing him of lying about mail-in voting’s integrity and labeling him a threat to democracy.
Amid this, Trump persists in seeking legislative success for the SAVE America Act, designed to require proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in federal elections. Efforts to pass this legislation include trying to attach it to critical spending bills and encouraging changes to Senate procedures to allow passage by a simple majority. Trump also promotes the Act heavily on Truth Social, proclaiming it a legislative priority.
Key Details on Mail-In Voting
In advocating against mail-in voting, Trump labeled mail ballots as “inherently corrupt” and suggested limiting their use to specific scenarios like illness or military deployment. Nonetheless, evidence of widespread mail voting fraud remains minimal. A 2025 study by the Brookings Institution found only approximately four cases of fraud for every 10 million mail ballots cast. In the 2024 presidential election, around 30% of voters used mail ballots, according to federal data.

Supporters of the SAVE America Act argue that it would enhance election security. However, critics claim that its requirements may unnecessarily complicate voting for many eligible citizens without effectively tackling non-citizen voting issues.
