Saturday’s college football action was highlighted by two major SEC rivalries, yet there were notable performances elsewhere. One such matchup took place as Tulsa visited Navy, where the Golden Hurricane pulled off an unforgettable touchdown.
With under two minutes left in the first quarter, the game was tied at seven at the Navy 10-yard line. Tulsa’s quarterback, Baylor Hayes, threw a backward pass to Oran Singleton Jr. However, Singleton was tackled roughly seven yards behind the line. Despite this, he evaded the defense and threw a high-risk pass into coverage. Wide receiver David Wells Jr., unrelated to the former pitcher, tipped the ball to himself outside the end zone before securing the score.
This exceptional play was not Singleton’s only highlight. He later caught a touchdown pass, giving Tulsa a 26-14 lead early in the second half. The Golden Hurricane’s unconventional play stunned spectators and showcased their resilience on the field.
The season has been tough for Navy. Last year, they were nationally ranked and earned the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy by beating both Air Force and Army. They capped off the season with a victory in the Liberty Bowl, resulting in an impressive 11-2 record. Entering this game, however, Navy had already exceeded last year’s loss count.
For Tulsa, the win marked a positive turn. They have started the season 3-2 after a disappointing 4-8 record last year. The team’s current performance indicates a potential shift towards a more successful season.
