A man evading federal immigration and other federal agents died when struck by a tractor-trailer in St. Augustine, Florida, on Tuesday. The Department of Homeland Security reported the incident.
The 28-year-old Mexican citizen was one of four people in a vehicle stopped by agents in a gas station parking lot at approximately 6:45 a.m. All four occupants fled on foot. In his attempt to escape, one individual was hit by a semi-truck on a busy road and was pronounced dead at the scene.
An official from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) stated, “The pedestrian was struck by the tractor-trailer in the right lane and sustained fatal injuries on scene.” The 64-year-old truck driver immediately stopped and attempted to assist the man. FHP is currently investigating the traffic fatality.
Fox News Digital has sought comment from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This incident marks the third death in around a week involving individuals fleeing ICE. Previously in Texas, a man was fatally shot after allegedly attempting to ram agents with his vehicle. Another man in Maine was shot and killed while inside a vehicle.
The incident occurred amid policy changes. Later that day, the Trump administration directed ICE agents to temporarily suspend most vehicle stops across the nation, a significant policy adjustment.
