The New York Knicks secured a 121-108 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Saturday night, bringing them within one game of their first NBA Finals appearance since 1999. Jalen Brunson led with 30 points, while Mikal Bridges added 22.
The Knicks aim to conclude the Eastern Conference Finals with a sweep of their second consecutive series on Monday night. The enthusiastic fans chanted “Knicks in four!” as Game 3 concluded. New York is now one of only seven teams in NBA history to achieve at least ten consecutive postseason victories. The Boston Celtics were the last to accomplish this, during their 2024 title run. Other teams such as Cleveland, San Antonio, and the Los Angeles Lakers have reached this milestone twice.
New York’s victories have mostly been decisive, with an average winning margin of 22.5 points. Karl Anthony-Towns, who scored 13 points with eight rebounds and seven assists, stated, “We have to execute at a high level in Game 4.”
OG Anunoby contributed 21 points, and New York maintained the lead throughout the game. The team excelled with a 55.8% shooting rate from the field, made 11 3-pointers, and achieved a 24 of 27 free throw record.
In response, Evan Mobley led Cleveland with 24 points, followed by Donovan Mitchell with 23 and James Harden with 19. The Cavaliers struggled, hitting only 12 of 41 3-point attempts and 12 of 19 free throws. Even the presence of Taylor Swift and Cleveland Heights native Travis Kelce couldn’t inspire a Cavaliers comeback. Coach Kenny Atkinson noted that the Knicks’ momentum was unstoppable despite an early opportunity in Game 1.
By the end of the third quarter, New York led 91-82. Landry Shamet then made three 3-pointers within 99 seconds, extending the lead to 105-94 in the fourth quarter. Coach Mike Brown praised his players, saying they were focused from the start and contributed significantly. The team’s strategy emphasized speed to avoid facing the set defense.
New York began the game strong, making their first four shots and taking a 9-1 lead in under two minutes. They finished the quarter with a 37-27 advantage. Although Cleveland tied the game at 50-all midway, the Knicks responded with a 10-1 run, finishing the first half with a 60-54 lead.
Brunson scored six of his 12 points during an 8-1 run in the third quarter, extending the Knicks’ lead to 83-70. Shamet highlighted the team’s resilience, emphasizing their preparedness for Cleveland’s challenges.
