A B-52 Stratofortress, a cornerstone of the U.S. Air Force’s fleet since 1955, crashed shortly after takeoff on Monday from Edwards Air Force Base in California. The incident occurred around 11:20 a.m. local time. Officials reported no immediate casualties on the base’s Facebook page.
Emergency responders were on-site addressing the crash. The B-52, built by Boeing, is renowned for its long-range capabilities and ability to carry nuclear weapons. Often referred to as ‘the Buff,’ which stands for Big Ugly Fat Fellow, this bomber has been integral to the U.S. military for over six decades, as stated by the Air Force Global Strike Command.
