Freshman shortstop Dallas Bowen has made an immediate and significant impact at Hanover Central. Senior catcher Sienna Stilley, committed to Jacksonville State, recognizes Bowen’s influence. She said, “I choose her every single time. Whether it’s a game-winning hit or a crucial play, she’s my pick every time.” Bowen carries herself with the confidence and readiness of a seasoned player. Besides her skills, her genuine personality stands out. Stilley adds, “Her presence can lift spirits with her bright smile.”
The Wildcats, with a record of 25-6, won the Northwest Crossroads Conference and are ranked 10th in the state. They will face No. 7 New Palestine (24-7) in the Class 3A state championship at Purdue’s Bittinger Stadium. Bowen boasts a .371 batting average, with six home runs, four triples, five doubles, 28 RBIs, 38 runs, and 10 stolen bases. In a recent game, her three-run homer started the scoring against East Noble in the semistate final.
Bowen has filled the shoes of the former shortstop, Coach Sam Antkiewicz’s daughter, who also led the team to last year’s state final. “Bittersweet timing,” Antkiewicz remarked. “Dallas fits in perfectly, and she’s been a blessing. She wants to win and compete; having her is valuable.”
Bowen appreciates the strong team dynamic, knowing she has support. “Even if I feel down, I know teammates will uplift me,” she said. Stilley acknowledges Bowen as an inspiring teammate. She says, “Even on off days, she encourages others. Our talks, especially when she asks for help, show her drive to improve.”
Following her brothers Drayk and Dylan Bowen’s athletic paths, Dallas aspires to reach high levels. Drayk will be Notre Dame’s linebacker, having won football accolades, while Dylan, an Oklahoma State recruit, may enter the MLB draft.
Bowen, also playing volleyball, values sibling motivation. “Seeing them succeed pushes me,” she shares. Her college dreams include competitive programs in Texas, Florida, or Oklahoma. Stilley believes in Bowen’s potential. “I see her success, and it fills my heart. She bounces back from adversity because she knows her role. Her maturity impresses me, and I’m excited for her future.”
As a young high school athlete, Bowen aims to finish the season strongly. Facing New Palestine, a team with six state titles, Bowen finds joy in the experience. “It’s a new challenge, and being with this team makes it fun. We’re competitive, supportive, and always united.”
