Dr. Soma Shares Critical Water Safety Advice

1 hour ago 0

Dr. Gauthama Soma, a pediatric emergency medicine physician and mother of two, emphasizes the importance of water safety for families during Memorial Day weekend. She advises ‘touch supervision’ for children near water, noting that drowning is usually silent and largely preventable. Dr. Soma also suggests that parents ensure their children wear Coast Guard-approved life vests and urges learning CPR.

Case of Potential Child Abuse

Arizona police have recommended felony child abuse charges against the parents of an 18-month-old boy who nearly drowned. The incident occurred during a Super Bowl party. Investigators allege the parents were impaired by marijuana and failed to supervise the child. This negligence resulted in the child being found face-down in a backyard pool.

After the boy was pulled from the water, first responders took him to Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. Although a doctor initially declared him dead, hospital personnel discovered the child was alive hours later in the morgue. He was then transferred to Phoenix Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Legal Developments and Family Response

The Maricopa County Attorney’s Office is reviewing the police recommendation for felony charges, but no charges have been filed yet. Family pictures shared on a GoFundMe campaign describe Vincent Fiordilino as a ‘miracle baby,’ highlighting his incredible survival story. Donations are being solicited to support his recovery, which involves extensive therapy and continuous medical care.

According to reports, a Dignity Health spokesperson stated that the hospital conducted a review to learn from the incident. They asserted that patient safety remains their highest priority, although no further details were shared due to privacy concerns.

Vincent’s condition improved at Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Though initial tests indicated potential brain damage, further evaluations showed no such damage. His organs, including kidneys, lungs, and liver, needed ongoing attention.
