Acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the arrest of a man who threatened a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer and his family. The threats occurred during a protest in New Jersey on Thursday night. Blanche had promised on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show” that the protester, caught on video, would be found and apprehended.
In the video, the protester could be heard making death threats towards the officer’s family, stating, “I will kill your whole f—ing family. Your whole f—ing family is dead. Your children and wife all dead. I have your face mother—er! All dead!”
Federal investigations confirmed the arrest on Friday evening when Blanche posted on social media platform X, “Told you. @FBI just arrested the man who threatened to kill ICE officers and their families. FAFO.” The identity of the arrested individual has not yet been disclosed.
Clashes between federal agents and protesters occurred outside Delaney Hall in Newark, N.J. on Thursday. Protesters numbered about 100 and engaged in confrontations with ICE agents, which included throwing objects and shouting derogatory chants like “F— ICE.” The protest, which began over detainees’ rights, had continued for six consecutive nights by Thursday.
In response to the protester’s actions, ICE agents resorted to pepper spray to control the crowds. During the incident, nine protesters were arrested. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed these arrests and highlighted the challenges faced by federal officers due to the aggression of the agitators.
Reports also indicate that local and state police did not respond to calls for assistance from ICE agents. According to a DHS statement, this lack of support was due to governor policy, as mentioned by Mullin during a television appearance.
The protests began following detainee complaints about access to medical care, food quality, and due process, which have all been denied by DHS.
