Netanyahu Rejects US-Iran Cease-Fire Agreement

2 weeks ago 0

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Israelis on Monday, expressing his dissent towards the newly formed cease-fire agreement between the United States and Iran. He declared, “The struggle has not ended,” indicating his non-compliance with the deal.

The agreement included a demand for Israel to withdraw its forces from Lebanon, where Israeli soldiers are engaged with Hezbollah. This militant group supports Iran and has been in conflict with Israel since March, following the outbreak of the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran. In solidarity with Iran, Hezbollah began launching attacks on Israel.

In response, Israeli troops established a so-called “security zone” in southern Lebanon and extended their operations to target areas they identify as Hezbollah strongholds, including bombings near Beirut. These actions resulted in Iranian retaliatory strikes against Israel.

The clashes over three months between Israeli forces and Hezbollah have resulted in significant casualties. Reports indicate over 3,700 Lebanese and at least 30 Israelis have been killed.

Although Israel was not directly involved in the talks leading to the cease-fire, discussions with Lebanon took place in Washington about a separate peace deal. However, this potential agreement relies on Hezbollah refraining from attacking Israel, a condition the group has rejected.
