President Donald Trump has shared new insights about the United States’ dealings with Iran following the recent memorandum of understanding (MOU) that aims for peace. During an interview with Axios’ Marc Caputo, Trump discussed the 14-point agreement and addressed views that it doesn’t equate to Iran’s unconditional surrender.
Trump stated, “Well, it probably is unconditional surrender,” and added that Iran’s military capabilities have been vastly diminished. “Look, they have no military. They’re all at the bottom of the sea. 159 ships. That’s what they had,” Trump noted.
He emphasized the U.S. strategy to weaken Iran’s military by focusing on eliminating key leaders and equipment. He highlighted successes such as the removal of Iran’s influential figures and the destruction of military assets. “There’s no airplanes,” he said. “They had a lot of ’em. There were 200 of them. They’re all gone.”
Trump explained that the destruction of Iranian naval forces involved secretive operations that lasted nearly two months. “For the last two months, I’ve been taking many ships out there and nobody knew it,” Trump revealed.
Do you know why they didn’t know it?
He said that this was due to disabling Iran’s radar and defensive systems, making detection impossible. “Last week we had one night, 25 ships. One night, 22. One night, 19. One night, 21,” Trump recounted.
Amidst these efforts, Trump talked about the economic motives behind reopening the Strait of Hormuz. “So right now, our stock market is through the roof,” Trump stated. He stressed that oil prices have stabilized, similar to their previous levels.
Under the terms of the agreement, both Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian have agreed to cease hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. They also initiated 60 days of nuclear negotiations.
Additionally, Trump highlighted the reduction in crime rates and aesthetic improvements in Washington, D.C. “We’ve taken Washington, D.C., from a death trap to one of the safest cities in America,” he claimed. Trump mentioned improvements like fresh grass, cleaned graffiti, and refurbished fountains and monuments.
