On June 2, 2026, CBS News announced the firing of Scott Pelley, a prominent journalist, following a dispute concerning the future of the network’s flagship news show, ’60 Minutes.’ The decision came after tensions with the network’s editor in chief, Bari Weiss.

Scott Pelley, aged 68, joined CBS in 1989 and has served as a ’60 Minutes’ correspondent and previously anchored ‘CBS Evening News.’ During a staff meeting, he accused Weiss of ‘murdering ’60 Minutes,” referencing recent departures within the program’s leadership and on-air team.

Nick Bilton, a tech journalist recently appointed as the executive producer of ’60 Minutes,’ communicated in a memo that the network had ‘parted ways’ with Pelley. CBS News chose not to comment publicly. However, a letter to Pelley obtained by The New York Times indicated the termination was ‘effective immediately.’

In an interview following his dismissal, Pelley expressed continued affection for ’60 Minutes,’ reflecting on his past experiences reporting from conflict zones including Afghanistan, Iraq, and Ukraine, emphasizing his commitment to the program.
