The Oklahoma City Thunder faced a pivotal Game 2 in the Western Conference finals. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his team were under pressure after losing Game 1 to Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs at home.
Gilgeous-Alexander performed at a high level to even the series. He scored 30 points on 12-24 shooting and provided nine assists, helping the Thunder return to Texas for the next game in the seven-game series.
Despite his on-court success, Gilgeous-Alexander’s postgame interview drew significant attention. When asked about Isaiah Hartenstein’s defensive role against Wembanyama, who scored 41 points in Game 1, Gilgeous-Alexander seemed to play with humor. He initially claimed he wasn’t impressed by Hartenstein’s defense.
In the interview conducted by NBC’s Zora Stephenson, he downplayed Hartenstein’s performance, jokingly saying, “It was alright. It was good. It was good.” The comments left viewers puzzled about whether he intended to joke.
Later, during a press conference, Gilgeous-Alexander explained the confusion. He admitted he misheard the question and tried to rectify the mix-up with a clearer response.
The stage is set for Game 3 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio. The Thunder hope Hartenstein can contain Wembanyama’s influence in the upcoming matchup.
