A tragic double murder has raised concerns in Florida. Dustin Rose, 19, and Samson Campbell, 18, were found dead around 10:40 p.m. on July 29 in DeLand, Florida. Dustin Rose and Samson Campbell were childhood friends. Rose attended The Citadel Military College of South Carolina and was home for a break. Campbell was visiting from the Chicago area to mourn the loss of a family pet.

Chitwood criticized the Ninth Judicial Circuit’s State Attorney, Monique Worrell, for lenient prosecutions leading up to the alleged murders. Preceding the incident, the teen suspect was in a diversion program for drug-related offenses. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier echoed these sentiments, labeling Worrell’s actions as endangering public safety.

Worrell responded, stating that criticisms were politically driven and that public safety requires informed leadership.

Legal Proceedings and Impact

The teen faces two counts of second-degree murder. R.J. Larizza, the State Attorney for the Seventh Judicial Circuit, indicated the likelihood of charging him as an adult. The suspect’s father faces felony accessory charges.
