Stephen A. Smith remains resolute in his stance against President Donald Trump, avoiding any suggestion of conciliation. Recently, after OutKick queried Smith over his critiques of the president, Trump responded with sharp words, labeling Smith a “low IQ individual” and “dumb as a rock.” Smith addressed the situation publicly during an appearance on Sean Hannity’s show on Fox News.
“I take no offense with the president coming after me the way that he did,” Smith said. “People go after him every day. I certainly went after him. He has every right to come back and clap back at me. I’m a big boy. I can take it. He ain’t phasing me one bit.”
Despite the criticisms, Smith did not issue an apology. He stood firm in his opinions during his televised appearance. Smith has ventured beyond his usual sports commentary into political territory, asserting his adaptability to handle political heat. This stance is essential if he intends to pursue a political career, particularly the presidency.
Smith has expressed dissatisfaction with the extensive security measures implemented during Trump’s visit to Madison Square Garden. These arrangements, which closed nearby streets and canceled external viewing events, were criticized by Smith as evidence of Trump’s self-centeredness.
The New York Knicks, a team without an NBA championship for over fifty years, found their momentum potentially disrupted by these arrangements, according to Smith. He argued that the heightened security and canceled public gatherings negatively impacted the team’s morale. Smith, a lifelong Knicks fan from Queens, stressed the importance of sustaining momentum among fans, some of whom had gathered in Central Park and other areas across New York state.
“But this man was raised in Queens, New York, a lifelong Knicks fan, knows about the suffering that spans 53 years,” Smith continued. “And when you are a true sports fan, you know every little thing could disrupt the momentum. You have watch parties outside, thousands of people. You have rabid fans inside. People throughout the state, gathered in Central Park, Bryant Park, and throughout the State of New York, are on fire.”
Nevertheless, attributing the Knicks’ playoff loss squarely to Trump’s attendance has sparked debates. The team’s performance issues, such as missed shots and turnovers, also contributed significantly to their defeat.
