Supreme Court Declines Carter Page’s Lawsuit Resurgence Request

2 weeks ago 0

The Supreme Court has opted not to reinstate Carter Page’s lawsuit against former FBI officials. This decision includes Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s recusal. The ruling effectively concludes Page’s pursuit to hold individual FBI leaders accountable for surveillance mistakes related to the Russia investigation.

As a result, Page has no further legal options, and the case against former officials like James Comey remains closed. This also reinforces a lower court’s decision that Page’s claims were filed too late.

The justices provided a brief, unsigned order that refused Page’s appeal. It upholds a federal appeals court’s ruling which states that a three-year statute of limitations had expired, thus barring Page’s claims. Page contended that the timeline should have commenced in 2019 when significant flaws in the FBI’s surveillance methods were identified by a Justice Department inspector general. Nevertheless, he filed the lawsuit in 2020, but the courts disagreed.

Justice Jackson abstained from the decision, and as usual, the Court did not provide a reason for her recusal.

This report will be updated as more information becomes available.
