Brandon Aiyuk’s Uncertain Future with 49ers Sparks Trade Speculation

7 days ago 0

The San Francisco 49ers’ general manager, John Lynch, has previously indicated that Brandon Aiyuk’s stint with the team might be ending. Meanwhile, George Kittle expresses a rather nonchalant sentiment about the situation.

Aiyuk and the 49ers have experienced a year-long rift following the team’s decision to cancel the remaining guaranteed money on Aiyuk’s contract extension. This move came after Aiyuk failed to attend rehabilitation sessions for the significant damage to his right knee, sustained in the 2024 season. The injuries included tears in his ACL, MCL, and meniscus.

Despite efforts, the 49ers haven’t succeeded in finding a trade partner for Aiyuk. However, Kittle wishes well to any team that might acquire him. He mentioned in Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast that despite Aiyuk’s past impressive speeds and agility, it has been eight months since he last observed these abilities.

“You guys have fun with that, I guess,” Kittle stated, addressing the speculation surrounding Aiyuk’s future.

There are persistent rumors connecting Aiyuk with the Washington Commanders. Aiyuk himself fueled these rumors by cheering for the Commanders on his Instagram Story, exclaiming phrases like “Go Commanders! Raise Hail! Take Command!”

His frustrations with San Francisco surfaced earlier, with Aiyuk labeling the team “dumb” and “stupid” for the decisions they took regarding his extension. He also suggested that the 49ers are reluctant to release him due to fears about his performance on another team.

San Francisco placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list in December when he ceased attending team facilities. Before his injuries in 2024, Aiyuk made 24 catches for 374 yards. The previous year, in 2023, he had an impressive season with 1,342 yards, 75 receptions, and seven touchdowns, aiding the 49ers in reaching the Super Bowl.
