The Kansas City Chiefs are currently facing significant challenges due to injuries among their wide receivers. Keeping healthy players on the roster has been problematic.
One of their key receivers, Tyquan Thornton, suffered a severe ankle injury almost two weeks ago in a match against the Las Vegas Raiders. This injury is expected to keep him off the field for the remainder of the season. Another player, Rashee Rice, is dealing with hamstring and knee issues, which may cause him to miss upcoming games. Additionally, Jeff Caldwell and Jimmy Holiday have been on injured reserve since late August.
Presently, the Chiefs’ roster includes Xavier Worthy, who has made 14 catches for 133 yards and one touchdown, Jalen Royals, with three catches for 17 yards and one touchdown, along with Cyrus Allen and Nikko Remigio. However, Allen and Remigio have not yet recorded any catches this season. Given the situation, sports analyst Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report suggests that the Chiefs should consider enhancing their wide receiver lineup.
Knox has proposed that the Chiefs could potentially acquire Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver Jerry Jeudy. A conditional fifth-round pick for 2027 might be enough to persuade the Browns to make a trade. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Jeudy’s availability is ‘pretty well known around the league’, although the Browns prefer a third- or fourth-round pick. This might be challenging, considering Jeudy’s current situation.
This season, Jeudy has only eight receptions for 81 yards across five games, which is nearly insignificant due to other prominent targets on the Browns like Concepcion and Boston. Despite this, Jeudy is still recognized for his talent, having made the Pro Bowl two years ago with 1,229 receiving yards in that season. His current base salary of $1.5 million for 2026 could attract teams that are mindful of their budgets.
If Jeudy joins the Chiefs, he is likely to receive more than the current average of three targets per game he gets with the Browns. He could offer quarterback Patrick Mahomes a consistent big-play option, something the team has missed since trading Tyreek Hill.
