Incident Overview
A British man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly forcing a 3-year-old boy into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo. The child, who suffered critical injuries, was not known to the man. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Details of the Arrest
The unidentified 30-year-old man was detained by police in Cambridgeshire. He was considered unfit to be interviewed, leading to his release on bail pending further inquiries. He remains on bail until September 30.
Location and Immediate Rescue
The incident took place at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a farm and zoo located in Huntingdon, England. The young boy sustained serious injuries, including a broken arm and pelvis. Tracey Johnson, the zoo owner’s wife, intervened to save the boy from the crocodile.
“I know Tracey very well and she’s a lovely lady…She’d always put her own life at risk to save someone else,” a local resident shared with BBC News.
Community and Authority Reactions
The zoo’s owners announced that their tropical house will remain closed until further notice. They expressed their concern for the boy and his family through social media.
Huntingdonshire district councillor Charlotte Lowe expressed disbelief over the incident, highlighting the zoo’s adherence to safety measures.
The Cambridgeshire Constabulary has been contacted for further comments on the case.
