Suspects Apprehended in South Austin Shooting Spree

Authorities have lifted the shelter-in-place order for areas in south Austin, Texas, following the capture of two suspects involved in a series of shootings from late Saturday into Sunday.

Shelter-In-Place Lifted

Austin police announced the removal of the shelter-in-place order on X, confirming the detention of two suspects. One suspect remains at large in the Manor area. More details are anticipated as the investigation progresses.

Shooting Details

Mayor Kirk Watson disclosed that multiple shootings occurred throughout the area, including incidents at two fire stations. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis emphasized the random nature of the violence, while the motive remains unknown. During a 7 p.m. update, Watson expressed gratitude for all involved parties and handed off to Davis, who reported the suspects’ capture.

One suspect had an outstanding warrant for gun theft from a store targeted earlier by the other partner. The department fielded 20 service calls regarding the suspects, who fired at apartments and fire stations, damaging a fire truck in the process. The suspects also stole four vehicles during their spree. Both Watson and Davis requested public cooperation and any information related to the events.

Suspect Information

While the identities of the apprehended suspects weren’t disclosed, Davis stated one individual is still at large. Police initially described the suspects as two Hispanic males in their late teens, differentiated by hair length.

Authorities released details on three vehicles potentially connected to the shootings: a black Honda Accord, a gold Honda, and a white Nissan Altima. Watson remarked that suspects seemed to swap vehicles during the incidents.

Victim Status

Four individuals have been wounded, with one in critical condition. The remaining three have non-life-threatening injuries. No further details on the victims are available, and it is unknown if any were fire station personnel.

Affected Neighborhoods

The initial shelter-in-place order included a wide area of south Austin, extending from Skyline Park to Dick Nicholas District Park. While lifted there, residents of Manor are cautioned to stay vigilant as police continue searching for the remaining suspect.

Safety Guidance

Chief Davis advised residents to report suspicious activity by calling 911 and warned against approaching suspect vehicles. Residents should also secure their vehicles, ensuring keys and key fobs are not left inside due to ongoing thefts.
