During the French Open at Court Philippe-Chatrier in Paris, Novak Djokovic experienced an unexpected interruption when a cameraman got too close during his third-round match against Joao Fonseca. This moment occurred after Djokovic had secured the second straight set against the 19-year-old Brazilian player, winning 6-4.
While the Serbian star attempted to focus, the cameraman approached for a close-up shot. Djokovic reacted sharply, sarcastically asking, “Can you come more in my face?” He then urged the cameraman to give him more space, using hand gestures to emphasize his request. The cameraman quickly complied, moving back to allow Djokovic more room.
Even with this distraction, Djokovic managed to play well, needing to secure one more set for entry into the Round of 16. Despite the earlier victory, Djokovic was unexpectedly defeated by Fonseca, who recovered to win the following three sets. The final score was 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, 7-5 in favor of Fonseca.
The win was a significant achievement for Fonseca, currently ranked 28th globally. This match marked the first meeting between the two players. Djokovic, aged 39, remains the third-ranked men’s singles player, but this loss highlighted Fonseca’s potential as one of the sport’s emerging talents.
Following his victory, Fonseca will compete against Norwegian player Casper Ruud, ranked 15th, in the fourth round. With aspirations for the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros, Fonseca aims to continue his impressive performance.
