Rep. Susie Lee, a Democrat from Nevada, claimed victory in the Democratic primary for Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District. This district stretches across the southern part of the Las Vegas metro area, including sparsely populated areas like Searchlight, the late Sen. Harry Reid’s hometown.
The district is a competitive swing area, rated at D+1 by the Cook Political Report. It was a contested primary where Lee faced three challengers: James Lally, Terrill Robinson, and Brandon West.
According to the Lugar Center at Georgetown University, Lee ranks among the top ten most bipartisan members of Congress. Despite this acknowledgment, Republicans criticized her opposition to the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Reports suggest the act allocated hundreds of millions to rural Nevada entities.
Lee garnered support from various groups, including AIPAC and companies like Boeing. In contrast, her opponent, cardiologist James Lally, claimed her reputation for bipartisanship is misleading. He alleged she cannot satisfy what he described as an “authoritarian cult,” referring to Republican voters and supporters of former President Trump.
The district is home to many tipped workers due to its proximity to the Las Vegas Strip. As a result, Trump’s “No Tax On Tips” initiative has gained traction among Republicans there.
Terrill Robinson, another contender and a Marine Corps veteran, has experience working for neighboring Rep. Dina Titus. His campaign focuses on reducing corporate influence in politics and enhancing government transparency.
Brandon West, who once worked at Carl’s Jr. and later with SEIU, expressed a personal connection to Las Vegas. He emphasizes his varied experiences and their role in shaping his understanding of people and issues.
If elected, West aims to cease all U.S. aid to Israel and proposes ending ICE operations.
Recently, Susie Lee faced backlash over a deleted social media post against Trump, where she used offensive language. She later defended her outburst, asserting her concerns over attacks on constitutional principles and her commitment to her oath of office.
