Three women face murder charges after the daylight stabbing death of Caroline Peña, a 32-year-old mother of five from Texas. Arrested were sisters Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, Amaya Cookie Diaz, 19, and their friend Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, as stated by the Del Rio Police Department.

The incident occurred in Del Rio, a city of 35,000 located in southwest Texas near the Mexican border. Local news identified the victim as Caroline ‘Caro’ Peña. Reflecting on Peña’s life, her friend Zelina Ochoa described her as someone born to be a mother, emphasizing her love for her children.

Details from authorities outline how officers responded to a report around 2:10 p.m. Thursday about a woman with multiple stab wounds from an attack at a busy street corner. Ochoa noted it happened near a Sonic drive-in on one of the city’s busiest roads in broad daylight.

The victim was initially treated at Val Verde Regional Medical Center, then transferred to a San Antonio facility because of her severe injuries. Despite efforts, Peña passed away from two stab wounds to her back and one to her stomach, dying around 9 p.m., according to police reports.

Detectives used surveillance footage, evidence, and witness testimonies to identify the suspects. The arrests occurred without incident. Kitty and Amaya Diaz were taken into custody around 4 p.m. Thursday, with Faz arrested shortly after.

Christina Salinas, another friend of Peña, expressed regret for missing a call from her friend shortly before the attack, suspecting it might have changed the outcome. She later rushed to the hospital to say a final goodbye before Peña was taken to San Antonio.

The motive remains unknown. Peña leaves behind five children, including a 17-year-old son, along with her twin sister. Friends like Ochoa remember her generosity and readiness to help others.

The suspects remain in custody at the GEO Correctional Facility, pending court hearings. The investigation continues, with potential for additional charges based on further evidence.
