Trump Discusses Tensions with Israel and Iran

4 weeks ago 0

President Trump recently shared insights into a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He expressed that, although the two leaders have generally had a positive relationship, he was frustrated during a discussion about Israel’s military actions in Lebanon. This led him to describe Netanyahu as “crazy.”

According to a report from Axios, Trump’s irritation stemmed from Israel’s ongoing conflict with Hezbollah in Lebanon, supported by Iran. Trump acknowledged using strong language in the conversation concerning this issue.

The disagreement marks a growing rift between the U.S. and Israel as the conflict with Iran, which started through joint U.S.-Israeli operations, continues. The Trump administration has intentionally kept Israel out of peace negotiations and has advised Israel to cease hostilities with Hezbollah.

In a discussion with CNBC, Netanyahu mentioned there were “tactical disagreements” with Trump but indicated they resolve issues effectively. Meanwhile, in the interview with The New York Post, Trump expressed a desire to eventually meet with Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, despite uncertainty due to Khamenei’s rumored injuries from U.S.-Israeli strikes at the conflict’s onset.

Trump noted the lack of public appearances by Khamenei, suggesting the Ayatollah’s injuries might be severe. He also commented on negotiations aimed at concluding the ongoing war, implying no urgency to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a key passage for oil and gas shipments, disrupted by Iran since the war’s beginning. When questioned about the Strait’s status by September 7, Trump responded, “I don’t know.”
