A coordinated manhunt involving multiple agencies is in progress to apprehend a 22-year-old suspect involved in a violent crime spree across state borders. This spree included several highway shootings near the FIFA World Cup at Arrowhead Stadium and a tense standoff with police.
The FBI’s Kansas City field office has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the capture and conviction of Oscar Sanchez-Munoz. He is identified as a White and Hispanic male, approximately 184 pounds, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on his right forearm.
Authorities warn that Sanchez-Munoz is considered “armed and dangerous.”
Oscar Sanchez-Munoz is wanted in connection with at least six shootings in multiple states. The pursuit started after several violent incidents in Kansas and Missouri. In Wyandotte County, Kansas, a warrant was issued for his arrest following an incident on June 11 where he allegedly shot at a vehicle. Besides a charge for criminal discharge of a firearm, he faces a warrant for aggravated assault in the same county with a $100,000 bond.
The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) believes Sanchez-Munoz is the main suspect in five shootings that took place Tuesday night in Kansas City, Missouri. These incidents occurred along Interstate 70, close to Arrowhead Stadium, where several FIFA World Cup matches were held.
One person died in these shootings, another was seriously injured, and several others, including an Uber driver shot in the leg during the Argentina and Algeria match, are expected to recover. The shootings led to an overnight standoff at a home in Independence, Missouri. The situation escalated with the house catching fire. Fire personnel extinguished the flames and investigators combed through the remains, but Sanchez-Munoz was not found.
Authorities later recovered the car believed to be used in the Tuesday night shootings. As of Saturday afternoon, no potential motives have been disclosed.
The FBI and KCPD strongly advise the public to stay cautious and report any sightings of Sanchez-Munoz immediately by calling 911. Information can also be submitted online at kccrimestoppers.com, or through local FBI offices.
